I know you all love to read about my little trips, and I love just as much to write about them. When you’re restricted to certain areas, it’s all about your frame of mind! Fortunately, my boyfriend lives in a great area that is an hour away from many places, so we try to take day trips to unthought of places, and this weekend, we took on Harrisburg, PA!
This is not an exhaustive list of things to do in Harrisburg, just how we spent about 8 hours there. Have you been to any of these places? If not, I’d highly recommend!
Lindt Truffle Outlet
This isn’t technically in Harrisburg, but it is on the way from the direction we came from. Right of I-81 in Carlisle, PA, the Lindt truffle factory sits. There’s a store there, that sells their delicious truffles by the box load, probably the truckload, and the bag load. Give me them all! We stopped by for some discounted yummies, and bought 2.5 pounds of chocolate for $11…you read that right! They’re all Christmas flavors, but I love a good chocolate peppermint, so they made me very happy. A well-loved detour.
Vegetable Hunter Brewery
I love vegetables, so I wanted to go to this little cafe. We were still so full from breakfast, unfortunately, so we couldn’t eat, but we did try some of their small batch beer! I got the flight of their 4 beers, and my favorite was a surprising one: a Cranberry Stout. I hate dark beer, but this just tasted super cranberry-like, so I loved it! The others were average, but that one was awesome. The place was cute, cozy, and relaxed, and the food looked wonderful.
PA Home and Garden Show
We decided to have a bit of fun and go to the Home and Garden show, hosted in the PA Farm Complex. It was $10 a person, and it was such a fun event. There were endless stations, cool garden set ups, and tons of samples to try. I left with some pickle flavored vodka, who’d have thought!
Did you know Hershey’s chocolate…THE Hershey’s chocolate, was founded in Hershey, PA? Right outside of Harrisburg, there’s an amusement park, hotels, and so many attractions. The chocolate world is one of my favorite places to go, any time, to tour the way they make chocolate. I’ve seen it probably a dozen times, yet it never gets old. Heartlifitng and fun, and free, you have to try it!
It’s no secret my boyfriend and I are big beer people. We love to visit local breweries and try all kinds of things. Troegs is already one of our favorite beer makers, and it was a block down the street from Hershey. The place is huge, and super busy. We had a hard time getting a parking spot, and once we did, we were warring over getting a table. Hangry was an understatement, but after going through the walking tour and the gift shop, we managed to get a spot, ordered some beers, and some food.
I had one of their Scratch Batch beers, which was good, but I liked some of the samples I got better, like Blackberry Dizzy. I had their falafel sandwich, and that was out of this world. Collin had a pizza, that was also really good. Their whole menu was affordable and sounded great. We went back to the store for some more fun stuff, and we can’t wait to go back.
This was such a fun day, full of yummy food and drink, as well as fun. It is really enjoyable to come up with a way to spend a day in a town you wouldn’t normally go to, and since this is our State’s Capital, it was worth a visit. I’ll definitely be back to some of these places!
All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not paid to go to or write about any of these places.
