I love to read, I love tea, and I love subscription boxes. These 3 loves came together in the most perfect birthday present, a 3 month subscription to HealthTea Book Crate.
HealthTea Book Crate is a small subscription business that operates bimonthly, each month curating a collection of tea, a book written by a female author, and other goodies to promote self care and health. The wellness focus of the box is exactly what I need with a stressful lifestyle, and being introduced to new books and tea is my favorite idea ever. It’s just brilliant, so artful, and worth every penny! Each month costs $58, and you can save some money if you purchase a 6 month or yearly subscription.
HealthTea Book Crate was an idea born from the love of reading, drinking tea, & focusing on good health for the mind and body. Our goal is to share good vibes and experiences with fellow lady readers who enjoy reading some of the best books being published today by women authors.
Every other month, we send our subscribers a book crate that is carefully curated around our chosen theme. Each box features a hand-selected, recently released fiction novel, a tea from a small vendor, and several self-care products and bookish goods that support local artisans.
Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi was an emotional roller coaster for me. Beautifully written and great literature, but I can honestly say it was hard for me to read, personally. We each bring our own backgrounds to everything we read. Our own stories inform the stories we consume. I’m currently struggling with some incredibly dark truths of my own, so a book that followed the protagonist’s journey doing just that didn’t feel great. It wasn’t something I could just pick up, I had to take it in doses. A real struggle I had with this book was watching the lead grapple with her animal research, as it is something I am personally going through during my own PhD. We even have a Post Doc with the same name! So for me, it was a challenge, but I think other people may view this book differently.
Also included in the box were several incredible self care items, and a delicious tea. Here’s a mini review of each!
- Rishi Dandelion Detox Tea– This is probably my favorite tea I’ve had from the box, and it had such an earthy yet delightful flavor. Whether it detoxed me or not, it tasted great!
- Herban Essentials Lavender Towelette– I have had these before, and I love them for freshening up after work or traveling. The perfect, quick pick me up.
- Wild Lather Soap-This earthy smelling, beautiful to look at soap in the shape of a triangle is awesome! Such a creamy lather and strong scent, and it leaves my skin feeling clean and moisturized. It also just feels like a spa in general when I use it.
- Freckled Fuchsia Tea Towel- This beautiful towel has a permanent spot on my oven. I haven’t used it for much practical things, but it really is a beautiful decor piece that fits my style perfectly (and it’s such high quality).
So, this was a fantastic box full of products to make me feel a bit more at ease. Although the book personally was not for me, it was still a very well-written work of fiction that I’d suggest if you don’t have such personal baggage. HealthTea Book Crate really does know how to put care and thought into each box, making it such a kind small business to support.
