A lover of done nails, but hate the chips? Maybe you crave that gel salon durability, but you wallet can’t handle the frequent trips. Either way, I have a money-saving beauty solution for you. An at home gel manicure is easier than you think, keep reading to learn the details!
What To Buy
I did a lot of research before ordering a gel lamp and set, and settled on Modelones for the word of mouth recommendations from my hair stylist, and the amazing reviews. The sets vary, but I’d suggest going for one with a lamp, some tools (like nail files, cuticle pushers, and brushes), base and top coats, and some colors to get you started. This set has everything you need, and more, to do a gel manicure at home, and you don’t need anything else to begin.
How To Gel Manicure Tutorial
Here’s a step by step, how-to tutorial to do your own at home gel manicure!
- Prep the Nail: Make sure to trip, file, buff, and push back your cuticle. Sometimes I skip this step, but it definitely makes a difference.
- Apply the Base Coat: Apply the base coat, and then cure for at least 60 seconds (though I do 90).
- Time for Color: This is where you apply your color. Make sure to paint it on in a super thin coat, even if it looks streaky. I do at least 2 coats (though if 3 are needed because I’m painting so thin, I’ll do it). Between each coat, I cure for 90 seconds.
- Time for Art: If you plan on adding any foil, nail stickers, chrome, or painted art, this is the time to do it. The limits are endless, but I like to make sure it’s sealed under my top coat.
- Seal it In: Finally, put on a clear (or matte) top coat and cure for 90 seconds! Then your nails are salon ready and shiny!
