I get a lot of compliments on my eyes, and most of that, I attribute to my makeup skills. I have learned how to play up my green eyes by using color, and specifically apply color theory when I work on my face. I am all about turning makeup into artistry, and through experimentation, makeup artist tips, and research, I have figured out the best way to play up my eyes to make the color pop.

Looking at the color wheel, you can see green is directly across rom the red, pink, and purple tones. That means, when you place these two side by side, they will pop. Translate that to makeup, and it means placing these colors right by your eye. If you don’t have green eyes, you can still look at the wheel and apply these techniques!

Purples

This is a daring color, but once you dive in, you will love it.

I wear purple eye makeup in two ways. Sometimes, I wear purple eyeliner with some simple neutral shadow to add a geometric, modern, and bold pop of color. If you aren’t feeling the bold liner, one of my other favorite looks is a colored smokey eye. Use different tones of purple (or even just one) to make a smokey eye. A dark plum looks great in the crease, or exchange your bright lid color for one with a lavender/lilac hue.

Pinks and Reds

Pinks and reds are a rare shadow color to find in a great formula, but when you do, magic can happen. For the summer time, I love to make looks reminiscent of the sunset by placing gold all over the lid, then carefully blending and adding on bits of pink and red to the middle and outer corner. The key is small amounts and blending to make it look seamless like a sunset. Elf Eyeshadows have some of the best sunset tones!

Warm Browns

If you don’t want to go directly for a bold color, a warm brown look, like the one in this image, is a go to. Sometimes, I just put a shimmery, orange toned brown all over my lid and call it a day. Make sure to bring the color down below the lashline as well for the extra brightness. Too Faced makes beautiful warm browns in a variety of palettes.
