Chanticleer Garden- A Storybook Turned Reality

As a child, I read “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett and dreamed of hidden gardens and paths. Chanticleer Garden in Wayne, Pennsylvania transforms the literary descriptions to life, with a mile long pathway circling 36 acres of lush beauty.

The above map shows all of the gardens Chanticleer is home to, and it is worthwhile to both follow the path and walk off into the grass. A full day can easily be spent here, exploring all the hidden treasures and thoughtfulness of the gardens. The water fountains were sculptural, the pathways eco friendly, and every leaf just the right bit of overgrown.

Through each garden, you are surrounded by a different atmosphere, and there are plenty of hidden cottages, sculptures, and extra pathways to walk around on. Consider visiting on a Friday evening to picnic around the garden, or visit early morning to beat the crowds and see the sun shining on the dew. Admission is only $10, with children under 12 free.
