Christmas Baking Made Easy: Candy Crack

Christmas baking can be time intensive and challenging, which is what I think makes it fun! Though fun, sometimes you just need to through together something fast to have a dessert, or even to give as a gift. What if I told you 4 ingredients could make you the quickest, most delicious candy?

The answer is in the saltines! Yep, the saltines!

Candy crack, or saltine candy, is a delicious and salty toffee treat that comes together in the nick of time, with ingredients you probably already have. The result is crunchy, sweet, salty, and show stopping. Everyone I’ve shared it with is stunned by how good it is, especially once you tell them there’s saltine crackers in it!

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 Sleeves of Saltine Crackers
  • 1 Cup of Brown Sugar (dark)
  • 1 Cup (2 sticks) of Butter
  • ½ Cup of Chocolate
  • Optional Toppings (sea salt, nuts, candy cane, or pretzels)

Instructions:

  1. Lay out the crackers on a foil lined sheet. You’ll use about a sleeve and a half of crackers. Try to fill up as much space as you can.
  2. Heat the brown sugar and butter over medium heat, stirring occasionally. When it reaches a boil, don’t stir and let boil for 5 minutes!
  3. Pour the toffee over the crackers, then pop in a 350 degree oven for 3 minutes to let the toffee bubble and bake.
  4. Take out of the oven and sprinkle on the chocolate chips. Put back in the oven for 2 more minutes to melt the chocolate.
  5. Spread the chocolate out evenly, then top with your toppings! I love nuts or flakey salt.
  6. Let cool for at least 30 minutes. I think it sets best in the fridge (and keeps best there as well).

So, will you try this? It is absolutely delicious and I think the perfect Christmas tradition! Wrap it up in a nice box, and you have the perfect gift.
