Green Chef Meal Kits

Ever since I moved into my apartment, I have wanted to try a meal kit service out! I love to cook, but I’m not all that good, especially when it comes to foreign foods. When I stumbled upon Green Chef, I instantly loved the idea that they had vegan and vegetarian options (I’m neither, just really love the food), and they had some super unique recipes with all organic ingredients.

Normally about $80 for 3 2 portion recipes, I had a really good opening discount which made it so worth it to try. I had the kits delivered last Wednesday, and made them throughout the past week. The shipping was great and fast, and everything came wonderfully packaged and kept cool.

I picked three recipes, Cuban Mojo Tofu, Moroccan Carrots, and a Farro Beet Bowl. Each recipe was in its own bag with everything I needed pre measured and often pre-prepared (chopped, etc).

Here’s some photos and a review of each recipe!

Cuban Mojo Tofu with Rice and Beans

This recipe featured a Cuban spiced tofu, pickled radishes and carrots, and white rice mixed with cilantro dressing, oranges, and beans. This meal was the easiest to prepare of the 3, though I found it to be the least flavorful. The tofu ended up a bit bland on the inside and overpowering on the outside, and the rice turned mushy with so much stuff in it. Not bad though, and I picked up a new tofu cooking method!

Moroccan Carrots with Shug Rice

This was my favorite meal, wow! It included roasted tri-color carrots with a harissa seasoning, then tossed in maple current dressing with mint, rice mixed with schug sauce, and sautéed radishes and peas. It was topped with pistachios and cashew crema, and I don’t think I could ever replicate this masterpiece! Only complaint, I had to shell the pistachios myself (which could have easily been done beforehand).

Farro, Kale, Beet, and Brussel Sprout Salad Bowl

This was the first meal I made, and the most complex. I spent an hour of active cooking time, and some of the steps seemed unnecessary. The farro was cooked with paprika, then topped with a kale, apple, and balsamic salad, roasted brussel sprouts and beets, and paprika spiced toasted almonds. Very stressful to make, but it reminded me of my favorite Sweet Green salad!

Overall, I would definitely suggest this meal service! The ingredients are fresh and high quality, and the recipes are delicious. There’s some prep involved, as well as a lot of steps, but the result is a restaurant quality meal and the instructions are easy to follow along for a newbie like me. As far as portions are concerned, they are a true 2 servings (and I eat a lot, so I am always skeptical about that!) Click here to subscribe and save some money off your purchase!
