Want to stay youthful? Wear sunscreen. Such a simple, golden rule, but it is so easy to overlook. Whether the sun is shining or its a cloudy day, whether you’re out hiking in the sun or staying indoors, your face needs sunscreen! If you only do one skincare thing, this is it. And don’t just take it from me.
Doctors and dermatologists alike are advocating for the daily use of sunscreen year round. Even with clouds and windows, UV rays are penetrating your skin, causing underlying cellular damage. For one, this can lead to premature aging and wrinkles (and who wants that); for two, this causes skin cancer. Skin cancer is much more common than you may think, and it’s an important disease to be mindful of, with relatively simple preventative steps like sunscreen.
If you remember me talking about SUR Clean Skincare (most recently their lip balms), you’ll know they’ve made an introduction into the color cosmetics world. SUR combines PhD level research, scientific evidence, and clean ingredients to result in products that are effective and safe, for you and the environment.
The Mineral Defense: Tinted Zinc Sunscreen is a lovely product focused on sun protection with coverage. Free of chemicals, this uses the natural physical sunblock zinc and combines it with Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E Oil, and Shea Butter. It comes in four tinted colors, and one un-tinted option.
I think the science behind this product is great. With zinc oxide (my preferred form of sunblock), then added ingredients for nourishment and skincare benefits, I know I’m doing my skin an extra favor by putting this on. Often times, mineral sunblock gives the face a white cast, but this sunscreen is tinted to get around just that. Instead of looking ready for the pool, your face looks covered and ready for the day.
I have the color Sand, and the shade match isn’t quite right (but with some extra makeup, I mediated that), but the coverage was there. The product felt light and moisturizing, but gave me the glowing, covered finish I like. After a walk in the sun, no burns for me! Even without sun exposure, the product still provides the protection you need. I like that this is a sunscreen first, cosmetic second, which is what you should be looking for in your sunscreen.
So, will you be trying this sunscreen? If you do, let me know what you think! Even if you aren’t in the market for sunscreen, check out SUR Clean Skincare to customize your clean and effective skin routine.
