I love promoting science education, as a scientist and education activist I am heavily involved in both circles. When an organization, called Skype a Scientist, was recommended to me by some fellow graduate students, I immediately signed up to volunteer with them.
This organization connects scientists of all levels (me as a future grad student, to tenured professors) to K-12 classrooms. It matches real scientists to real students, and is a really inspirational organization.
If you have science background, you can fill out a short form on their website to sign up. Then, teachers do the same. You will be matched with classes that are requesting people versed in your expertise!
So far, I have Skyped with one classroom, and have 3 more on the agenda. Being at a college, I can even go into the lab and show the interesting fossil casts and bones!
If you want to volunteer for this amazing organization, follow the link and fill out a profile, you won’t be disappointed!
