In Central Florida lies a retirement community where people drive golf carts, swim in 40+ pools, and golf at 47+ courses. The Villages is a majorly sized 55+ community and home to my grandparents. On a road trip down to visit, we stayed there for a few days and spent our time exploring on a golf cart, swimming to beat the heat, and eating lots of chocolate. While life is slow there, here’s a few noteworthy things to check out if you find yourself in this area of Florida.
- Kilwins Chocolate- Although a chain chocolate shop, the treats at Kilwins are hard to beat. I was there at least once a day, and enjoyed items ranging from the molasses chip chocolates, fudge, toasted coconut ice cream, chocolate covered lemon peel, and chocolate dipped marshmallows. If you’re looking or an indulgence, look no further!
- Live Oaks Park- This adorable park is tucked between Sumter Landing and Spanish Springs. The park has an abundance of oaks, a marsh viewing platform, and catches beautiful sunlight around 7pm. Stop for a quick stroll.
- Sumter Lake Boat Ride- This private lake is surrounded by Sumter Landing and the Arnold Palmer golf course. The boat tours start at 4pm and last for 20 minutes. At only $2 a person, it is a great way to see the beautiful lake and surroundings. If you’re lucky, you will even see a gator!
