My boyfriend and I love to play tourist in our own state, and this past weekend, we went to Gettysburg, PA. We both hadn’t been there since we were young teenagers, so we loaded up my convertible and drove there!
We first stopped at the visitors center to get a map of the auto tour since we had no idea how to get around! I completely recommend.
We did the whole auto tour and drove to all 16 spots (and a few of the bonus ones). Since my radio doesn’t work, we didn’t have the audio guide, but we truly enjoyed seeing the battlefields and monuments. Make sure to get out of your car and climb up the lookouts, the terrain is beautiful. It’s also really humbling to see the fields and remember what went on so many years ago.
The Pennsylvania monument is a beautiful one, and the National Cemetery is worth stepping out and visiting to pay honor to a battle that happened so many years before us. Along the way, you should also stop at the Devil’s Den, the rock formations are awesome!
After our tour, we decided to go refresh ourselves at the Appalachian Brewing Company. We got their 8 signature beer flight to share (we loved to double IPA), as well as the Korean Barbecue Brussel Sprouts.
Then, we walked through the town, going into some gift shops, reading historic plaques, and enjoying the historic architecture. We stopped for dinner at Blue and Grey, an awesome burger joint with wild toppings and fair prices!
We finished off our visit with a trip to Fourscore, the newest brewery in the area! It was SO delicious, especially their sour. It was god enough to bring a crowler home! It was some of the best beer I’ve had in a while.
We had a great time, and if you’re in the area, I definitely suggest visiting Gettysburg for a day trip.
