Wasting Away in Margaritaville: Our Mexican Minimoon- Margaritaville Riviera Maya Island Reserve All-Inclusive Resort Review

Ever want to be wasting away in Margaritaville? It may sound cheesy, but it’s much more luxe than you may think. My husband and I were looking for a minimoon destination, and decided to jet away to Mexico for the weekend for some warmth, sun, and sand. Maragritaville, Cancun had been on my bucket list for some time (I know it’s silly, but I felt like it was an experience we needed to have). So we booked Spirit flights out of Philadelphia, then check in to Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya.

This property opened in June 2023, and you can tell it is brand new. The whole place is clean, beautifully maintained, and the grounds combine that Margaritaville fun with Mexican beach vibes, being colorful yet still tasteful. There’s expansive pools throughout, several swim up bars, and numerous places to sit and unwind. Unfortunately, there’s not a beach yet to relax on, which was my biggest complaint the whole trip, but the rest of the property made up for it!

Our room was a spacious King Suite with an ocean view balcony. It had a beautiful seating area, a tv where we could order room service, a speaker, and a mini bar! The bathroom was also wonderful, with a rainfall shower, plenty of towels, and very luxurious toiletries.

The food was some of the best I’ve ever had at an all inclusive. They had an extensive breakfast buffet, complete with a juice bar, and several restaurants on property. Our favorite was the Italian restaurant, Frank & Lolas. We had several incredible meals there, complete with homemade pastas, delicious desserts, and incredible apps like calamari and arancini. My favorite thing I ate? The ceviche at the lunchtime snack bar! Out of this world!

There was a reasonable amount of activities and entertainment, and by that, I mean something to do occasionally during the day and a band to see at night. This felt perfect! I didn’t want nonstop activities, but it was enough to keep you occupied when you were ready to get up from the lounge chair. I particularly enjoyed the evening bands, the chocolate demonstration, and the water aerobics. If a foam party is your thing, that happens on Saturdays and is quite lively.

Overall, it was a fun and luxe trip, without being stuffy. September is a great time to visit Cancun, Mexico, because the temps are warm but there’s not quite as many people! Stay tuned to see where we go for our main honeymoon next year!

All thoughts and opinions are my own. We paid for this trip ourselves.
