The Ordinary: Skincare and Science

I love science, as evident by my field of study, but I also love skincare! I am constantly seeking out new ingredients and formulas to try. I went from fighting acne to fighting aging, but I still like to include both in my routine. I also love introducing my fiance to products that will be affordable and work for him nightly.

Meet The Ordinary, a skincare line that has cut the bull to give you effective, and affordable, formulas. The packaging is sleek, and the science is real. I love this brand for their dedication to research and providing consumers with what they need.

EUK134 0.1%

This beautiful oil spreads out nicely on the skin, and has been a treat under my moisturizer. The antioxidant support protects my skin from the bad items in the environment, and keeps cell turnover going so I can stay wrinkle free and glowing. I have also noticed my redness improves when I use this.

A bit of the science…

EUK-134™ is a mimetic of superoxide dismutase and catalase, forming an exceptionally rare self-regenerating molecule that scavenges superoxide free radicals, eliminates hydrogen peroxide and converts reactive oxygen species into water and oxygen.

Matrixyl 10% + HA

This is the product I have used the most, because I find it great for winter with the Hyalauronic acid delivery system, but the peptide gives my skin the boost it needs to reduce wrinkles. I find this to be a great maintenance product that will give you long term results while still feeling hydrating and being thick on the skin!

The science…

Matrixyl™ is a trademarked peptide composition developed by Sederma Inc. in France. This highly-effective composition has been shown to reduce the look of static and dynamic wrinkles. This formula contains two generations of Matrixyl™, Matrixyl™ 3000 and Matrixyl™ synthe’6™, at a combined concentration of 10% by weight in a specialized Hyaluronic Acid delivery system. The peptide in Matrixyl™ 3000 is palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 and the peptide in Matrixyl™ synthe’6™ is palmitoyl tripeptide-38.

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

This is a revolutionary product for acne, and whenever I have breakouts, it reduces their size and heals them with speed. The zinc and niacinamide are two ingredients I have never heard of before, but they definitely make a noticeable impact. My fiance is also a huge fan of this one, and it really alleviated mascne!

The science…

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is indicated to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. A high 10% concentration of this vitamin is supported in the formula by zinc salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid to balance visible aspects of sebum activity.

I’ve also been a long time user of both their Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B% serum and Natural Moisturizing Factors. Whenever I am not sure what moisturizer to use, these are my go to choices. My fiance also uses them religiously!

Not just skincare, but also expanding into the shower space, I tried their new Sulphate 4% Shampoo Cleanser for Body & Hair and Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner. While the shampoo didn’t wow me, I love the consistency and texture of the conditioner! It provides a really deep conditioner, and is almost more like a thick paste. I also have been using the Squaline Cleanser and find it’s a really gentle and effective face wash.

You already know how much I love their color cosmetics (read my foundation review here). Have you tried their products? If so, let me know what you think!

All thoughts and opinions are my own. I purchased all these products myself.
